Or so the Church of Scientology would like to believe.
More: John Travolta talks Oscars name blunder — "Let it go!"
According to the most controversial documentary at Sundance this year, Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Beliefs, Travolta was a troubled man when he first came to Scientology in the mid-'70s.
As reported by People, former Church of Scientology member, Sylvia "Spanky" Taylor, was assigned as Travolta's liaison. Taylor speaks out in the documentary about her time with Travolta and her own horrific experiences within the Church of Scientology. According to Taylor, once Travolta began to find success in his career, he was conditioned to believe, "If I leave, it will all go down the tubes."
Though Travolta is now, reportedly, dedicated to Scientology, he had shown signs of doubt in the past, which made Scientology leader, David Miscavige, wary. The documentary alleges that the Church of Scientology has members go through auditing sessions, which requires them to confess their darkest secrets to other members. Miscavige used the information from these sessions with Travolta to create a "black PR" file on the actor so that if he ever stepped out of line, the file could be used as collateral to keep Travolta in the church.

And while it's easy to think of some funny secrets Travolta could be hiding (like his Grease pants no longer fit or he still wears his Staying Alive outfit every chance he gets), we can't help but feel like the actor is probably harboring some deeper issues that have us concerned.
Taylor, after all, describes Travolta as "troubled" when he first came to Scientology, which has us thinking maybe drugs and alcohol were a factor. Even worse, could he be suffering from depression or a mental disorder?
If this was the case, Travolta wouldn't be getting the medically recommended help he needs since, by Scientology's beliefs, psychiatric diagnoses are fake ailments, according to the National Enquirer.

Going Clear creators, Alex Gibney and Lawrence Wright, hope that big Scientology names, like Travolta and Tom Cruise, will eventually speak out against Scientology so that the truth will finally be known.
Meanwhile, the Church of Scientology has released a statement slamming the documentary's content as false.
