Evil Dead

With blood raining down to create a nightmarish storm of depravity, Evil Dead spewed $26 million at the box office, proving that Americans have a dark side. Skewing toward testosterone-riddled humans, the audience for this freak-fest was — unsurprisingly — 56 percent male.

The Croods

G.I. Joe: Retaliation

Ninjas, guns and North Koreans — that about sums up global politics right now, so it's no wonder this film brought in another $21 million. If only Dennis Rodman could work some more basketball diplomacy and get North Korea's 28-year-old leader Kim Jong-un to make movies, not war. We'd all feel a bit more secure.

Olympus Has Fallen

This apocalyptic tale, also involving North Koreans, raised its defense budget by just over $10 million over the last three days. Who says the sequester in Washington, D.C., is problematic?

The Host

This alien tale with spiritual themes lifted its spirits by $5.2 million. The Host may not be the heavy hitter Twihards were hoping for, but at least audiences have time to recover from their vampire fatigue.
