Evil Dead
With blood raining down to create a nightmarish storm of depravity, Evil Dead spewed $26 million at the box office, proving that Americans have a dark side. Skewing toward testosterone-riddled humans, the audience for this freak-fest was — unsurprisingly — 56 percent male.

The Croods
Now that science has proven there's a bit of Neanderthal DNA in most modern humans, it makes sense that The Croods has captured our imagination and brought in $21.1 million this weekend.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation
Ninjas, guns and North Koreans — that about sums up global politics right now, so it's no wonder this film brought in another $21 million. If only Dennis Rodman could work some more basketball diplomacy and get North Korea's 28-year-old leader Kim Jong-un to make movies, not war. We'd all feel a bit more secure.

Jurassic Park 3-D
Twenty years after its original release, this paleolithic fantasy roared to the tune of $18.2 million this weekend. We can barely hold on to our fossils, we're so excited for Jurassic Park IV, set for release in June 2014.
Olympus Has Fallen
This apocalyptic tale, also involving North Koreans, raised its defense budget by just over $10 million over the last three days. Who says the sequester in Washington, D.C., is problematic?

Tyler Perry's Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor
Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Kim Kardashian and Vanessa Williams vamp up this movie, which depicts a woman's seductive betrayal. It seduced a sexy $10 million from audiences this weekend.

The Host
This alien tale with spiritual themes lifted its spirits by $5.2 million. The Host may not be the heavy hitter Twihards were hoping for, but at least audiences have time to recover from their vampire fatigue.

The Call
This intense psychological thriller added another $3.5 million to its cache of weaponry. The film's star, Halle Berry, will be appearing with fellow Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence in X-Men: Days of Future Past next year.

Admission
In 10th place, this tale of ambitious Ivy Leaguers scored $2.1 million this weekend. Star Tina Fey will next be seen in the movie The Muppets... Again! in 2014, alongside the multinational cast of Christoph Waltz and Ricky Gervais.
