Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose expecting first child

Just a year ago, the two were boyfriend and girlfriend. Now they are planning a wedding and expecting a baby.

Amber Rose

While they have been partners in music for a while, Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose are now embarking on a life together. The couple was recently engaged, and just today they announced they will be having a baby. On the red carpet for the MTV Video Music Awards, the two made the official announcement to MTV VJ Sway.

"Well, Sway, you know you my brother man, so we had to do it with you first and we had to do it with the whole world, and just let everybody know that we're expecting a beautiful young baby," Khalifa told the host. He then screamed to the crowd, "We're having a baby!"

The eclectic couple doesn’t seem to have any plans to settle down any time soon, though, as evidenced by their matching black outfits at the awards, accentuated by the see-through parts of Rose's dress. The couple showed up in matching white outfits last year and may have predicted their lives a year from there.

"We discuss it all the time; like he said, we're very much in love," Rose told MTV at last year's awards show. "But, ya know, we're just going to take our time and just enjoy each other right now. We're both really busy and we work really hard and when the time comes, it's gonna come."

Khalifa added, "It's gonna happen. My baby knows I love her. I'm committed and she's committed, so we're just gonna make it happen."

Rose had recently dated Kanye West, but it seems her relationship with Khalifa was love at first sight. "When we met, we fell in love, and then he moved to LA, and he wound up moving in my building, and we just started our life like that, together," she said. The couple told People they found out the sex of the baby two days ago but are keeping it to themselves.

The couple showed off their new addition, in the form of Rose's baby bump, tonight on the red carpet at the Video Music Awards.

Miley Cyrus is putting music above marriage

The singer said her album is what is important, because she and her fiance don't need a piece of paper right now to know what they mean to each other.

Miley Cyrus

When Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were first engaged, a lot of people worried that the 19-year-old singer was too young to be making such a big commitment. But Cyrus is focused on her career and seems to know what she wants out of life far better than people twice her age do. She has been working on her latest record for months and has not had much time to plan her wedding.

"I've got so much going with this record, this record's going to, like, kill me," she told E! News. "I'm really excited to get obviously married, but I kind of already feel married. I know we're forever, and I don't really need a [piece of] paper right now."

Cyrus and Hemsworth have been together since well before she was legal, and she is secure enough in that relationship to know that her album is going to come first. "I'll have a single out this year," she said. "This is the first time I get to tell people about it, so I'm really excited."

There has been no sneak peek of what that music may sound like, but Cyrus seems to be constantly evolving in her music, her acting and her personal life. "It's all really different," she told E! News. "We've been working really hard, and the record, I'm really proud of the album. It's my favorite thing I've done, probably ever."

Cyrus and her camp are still keeping quiet on a possible release date of either the single or the album, and we probably won't have any sort of wedding date until after both of those things are released . With her and Hemsworth's busy schedules, they could be engaged for years before they start thinking about actually getting married.

Will Eastwood's RNC appearance hurt his new movie at the box office?

$

When the actor appeared on stage at the Republican National Convention, no one knew it would be talked about for weeks thereafter. But will it also hurt his new movie, Trouble with the Curve, or will people want to see more of him?

Clint Eastwood

It has been a whole week since Clint Eastwood’s bizarre speech at the Republican National Convention, but people are still talking about it. Besides the speech itself, people are wondering about Eastwood himself, which is not great in the weeks before a movie opening.

"While such ridicule plays well online, it could prove disastrous at the box office when Trouble with the Curve opens nationwide Sept. 21,” said the Boston Herald. “The film stars Eastwood as a past-his-prime baseball scout for the Atlanta Braves who's accompanied by his lawyer daughter, played by The Fighter actress Amy Adams, on a last-chance scouting trip to North Carolina.” The film also stars Justin Timberlake.

Warner Bros. did not want to speak about the incident at the RNC and how it might affect the movie's opening. But Eastwood is still expected to appear at all the promo events for the film, showing he doesn't think the controversy is serious enough to have given him a bad reputation. But this one could go either way.

According to S. Mark Young, a professor at the University of Southern California's Marshall School of Business and co-author of The Mirror Effect: How Celebrity Narcissism is Seducing America, "If you're a Clint Eastwood fan, my guess is you'll probably still go to see the movie. If you're not, you might be very disappointed with what's become of Clint," Young told the Boston Herald.

While many Hollywood actors promote their political beliefs, there are even more who keep their beliefs private. But unless actors make a point of expressing them, their fans don't normally care. Eastwood's decision to speak at the Republican National Convention came as a surprise to many because people just hadn't thought too much about his beliefs.

"Although he's been a Hollywood staple, Eastwood has never conformed to Hollywood standards," said the Boston Herald. "He’s a flag-waving Republican [and] a fiscal conservative who takes left-leaning stands on social issues like gay marriage. He made waves with right-wingers earlier this year when he starred in a Super Bowl spot for Chrysler, a company that benefited from government support."

Only time will tell if last week's speech will help or hurt the movie at the box office. Trouble with the Curve will be released Sept. 21.

New Glee stills leaked: Hugh Jackman and other singing stars we hope show up

The leaked stills from Season 4 of Glee have us on pins and needles ... but which famous faces will join the Glee gang this go-round? Here are our picks for surprisingly harmonious celebs we'd love to see make cameos.

Hugh Jackman

Okay, so this first one is a little obvi. In our defense, if Hugh himself has expressed an interest in bringing his talented booty to the show — and every woman in the free world wants to see him on the show — the idea merits mentioning until it comes to fruition. Any man who masterfully maneuvers from playing an adamantium-clawed mutant to winning Tony Awards could surely turn even the most die-hard musical hater into a Gleek.

Hugh Jackman's Broadway rehearsals

Garrett Hedlund

He may be known to most as Sam Flynn from TRON: Legacy, but — in our minds — Garrett Hedlund's most impressive performance to date was as karaoke cowboy Beau Hutton in Country Strong. While costar Gwyneth Paltrow may have gotten the lion's share of the press for her singing chops, we'd buy Garrett's album over Gwynie's in a hot sec. Hedlund was so convincing as a twangy heartthrob, in fact, that dubious fans flooded search engines to see if he was pulling the classic Milli Vanilli movie magic.

Country Strong Movie Clip "Give In To Me" Official

Garrett Hedlund and Leighton Meester perform the song "Give in to Me" on the movie Country Strong.

James Marsden

Audiences were first introduced to James Marsden's vocal stylings in 1996 through the short-lived ABC series Second Noah, leading to the incredulous jaw-agape expression typical when one thinks, "He's that hot AND he can sing?" Yep, it looks like this kid won the genetic lotto. Following his 2001 – 2002 stint as Glenn Foy on the cult hit Ally McBeal, Marsden's fate as a singing actor was sealed. He has since crooned on several sets, including Hairspray, Enchanted, and Death at a Funeral.

Jimmy and Amy - True Love's Kiss

Andre Braugher

If you haven't seen the circa-2000 flick Duets, run  to your nearest RedBox, local DVD emporium or Netflix queue and snatch it up ASAP. The movie's a gem for many reasons, but it's Last Resort actor Andre Braugher's performance that hits the highest note. Playing a jailbird-turned-songbird-on-the-run , Braugher will bring tears to your eyes with his a cappella rendition of "Free Bird."

Duets - Free Bird

Andre Braugher sings an acapella version of "Free Bird" on the movie Duets.

Jessica Biel

Jessica Biel is gorgeous, has an a** that you can bounce a quarter off of and will soon walk down the aisle with hip-hop-pop hottie Justin Timberlake. As if that weren't enough to make you want to chop off her pretty brown hair while she sleeps, it turns out the lone girl on our list can also carry a tune in a bucket. In 2008, she laid down a few tracks in a recording studio for her performance in the film Easy Virtue. She did a pretty decent job on stage in Guys & Dolls, too. But let's be honest ... we're really just hoping she can convince future hubs JT — who has refused offers to be on Glee in the past — to make a cameo.

Eva Longoria at the DNC: "I don't need a tax break"

Eva Longoria made her next step into the political world by giving a speech at the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.

Eva Longoria addresses the Democratic National Convention

Eva Longoria has always been a bit on the political side, but the former Desperate Housewives actress has really stepped up her support for President Barack Obama with this election cycle.

The 37-year-old actress is the co-chair of his national re-election committee and gave a speech in support of the president during Thursday nights' meeting of the Democratic National Convention.

Longoria's thoughts? Mainly, we need to keep jobs in the United States and help boost the middle class.

"Mitt Romney would raise taxes on middle-class families to cut his own — and mine," she told the Charlotte crowd. "And that's not who we are as a nation, and let me tell you why: because the Eva Longoria who worked at Wendy's flipping burgers — she needed a tax break. But the Eva Longoria who works on movie sets does not."

The actress added that she understands what it's like to be in debt and climb out of it.

"And just like our president and first lady, I took out loans to pay for school. I changed oil in a mechanic shop, I flipped burgers at Wendy's, I taught aerobics, and I worked on campus to pay them back," she said.

"President Obama is fighting for changes that grow the economy from the middle out and help all Americans succeed — jobs, education, health reform, the DREAM Act, equal pay for women," she said. "He is moving us forward with opportunity today for prosperity tomorrow. Mitt Romney wants to take us back to yesterday."

She closed out her speech asking people to "fight for the American dream."

"And we know how to do that. Let's re-elect President Obama! Sí, se puede!"

2012 MTV Video Music Awards: Best dressed

The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards are in the books -- and what a lackluster show it was. At least we got to look at some pretty dresses, right?

Surprisingly, most of the celebrities at the 2012 MTV VMAs looked pretty good in their designer gear. It seemed like this year the celebs were all about the streamlined look.

Rihanna

Rihanna looked all sorts of simple and angelic on the red carpet with her short 'do and white custom Adam Selman dress.

Katy Perry

At first we weren't too into Katy Perry's Elie Saab dress, but it grew on us throughout the night. It definitely makes our best-dressed list, though we could have done without the sheer skirt. We're also loving her raven locks. The look suits you, Katy.

Amber Rose

Maybe it's her pregnant belly, but we're really loving Amber Rose's black lace dress. Can't say the same for Wiz Khalifa's short pants, though.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus' VMA look was quite eclectic, thanks to her bleach blond hair and black Emilio Pucci dress. It worked for her, though: We're especially loving the down-to-there cleavage. Looking good, Miles!

Gabby Douglas

Olympian Gabby Douglas can pretty much do no wrong in our eyes, so it's no surprise that we loved her sparkly -- and age-appropriate -- look for the 2012 VMAs. It's nice to see her in something other than a gymnastics uniform!

Pink

Singer Pink has been away for a hot minute, thanks to her mommyhood duties, but she's back in a big way with her new album. She kicked off the upcoming release with an appearance at the VMAs in this body-hugging Stella McCartney number. Looking good, mama!

The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards pleasantly surprised us with the high-quality style on the red carpet. Sadly, not everyone got the message.

Look, we get it: MTV is supposed to be where the young and edgy musicians of today go to be young and edgy. However, some of them just don't know when to quit with the ridiculous outfits.

Nicki Minaj

OK, we expected Nicki Minaj to show up in something completely crazy, but this bright yellow wig and Versace catsuit is just on another level of yuck. You're almost 30, Nicki: Time to put the crazy stuff away.

Alicia Keys

We can appreciate what singer Alicia Keys is trying to do with this look: She's doing her best Angelina Jolie Oscars leg impression. Sadly, the Alexandre Vauthier dress is too tight in some places and bunches up in others. You almost had it, Alicia.

The Bachelorette, Lizzy Caplan, Kirsten Stewart, Isla Fisher

Kirsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan and Isla Fisher have some pretty wild times in the black comedy The Bachelorette. But in real life the girls are a lot more low-key… well, except for Isla’s mom.

“I did go to a pretty messy bachelorette party, but I can’t talk about it because it was for my mom, and I planned it,” Isla told SheKnows. “Let’s just say, don’t ever get a stripper for your mom.”

Interview with The Bachelorette's Kirsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan, and Isla Fisher

Kirsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan, and Isla Fisher dish on their own Bachelorette party memories.

Isla wouldn’t reveal the nitty gritty details, but we’re sure they don’t measure up to the drug-fueled debauchery of this Bridesmaids-gone-bad comedy.

The film touches on everything from overdosing to eating disorders, shedding light on problems real women face.

“I just felt like they aren’t really treated the way they are in life, which is, they’re just things that happen,” the film’s director Leslye Headland told us.

Another issue explored is the way women treat each other.

The characters often refer to each other as “B-Face” in the movie, a slang term from their high school days.

But the actresses told SheKnows that they don’t approve of women calling each other the B-word.

“I hate when girls call other girls b*tch,” said Dunst. “That’s so not my vibe. I had a really good solid crew of friends. I never had a ‘Mean Girls’ experience.”

Isla agrees, “I don’t like it. I’m really nice to my friends. I send them presents.”

Caplan on the other hand, didn’t seem to find the term offensive.

“I’ve done that to you before, and I definitely sensed that maybe you didn’t like it,” she laughed to Kirsten.

As for her own bachelorette party memories, Caplan told us she’s had her fair share of fun.

“We did the appropriate amount of misbehaving,” she told SheKnows.

And apparently there was a bit of misbehaving on-set as well. Rebel Wilson, the film’s Bachelorette, told us, “There was a lot of drinking on set, Leslye encouraged it.”

Green Day's Billie Joe voices support for Pussy Riot at VMAs

After being hospitalized while touring in Italy, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong was not only strong enough to perform at the VMAs, but he was in his usual fiery, fighting form -- speaking in support of Russian activist rockers Pussy Riot, who are now on the run from the government.

Billie Joe MTV

Billie Joe Armstrong not only fronted Green Day's fifth MTV Video Music Awards performance Thursday night, but he was in feisty spirits just days after severe dehydration and the flu landed the 40-year-old rocker in the hospital, and forced the group to cancel a concert in Italy.

As Armstrong and his bandmates geared up for the performance, he expressed support of Russian feminist punk rockers, Pussy Riot. Members of the band were sentenced to two years in a penal colony for allegedly inciting "religious hatred" following a performance/demonstration in Moscow earlier this year.

Amnesty International, by way of MTV, has called their conviction a "bitter blow to freedom."

"It's just freedom of expression, civil liberties... Always speak your mind, always speak the truth, no matter the cost," Armstrong told MTV from the pre-show red carpet Thursday night.

His statements follow a video released by Pussy Riot's three remaining members.

In that video the bandmates -- who have fled Russia since their conviction -- thanked Green Day as well as Madonna, Bjork and the Red Hot Chili Peppers for their support.

So, while Green Day's latest album may have mellowed a bit, it's good to see Billie Joe isn't backing down from his convictions -- even if they're not necessarily delivered via song.

Scarlett Johansson sends plea to young voters at DNC

Scarlett Johansson made an impassioned plea to young voters at the Democratic National Convention: Commit to vote. Who knew the actress was so political?

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson appealed to the more than half of all eligible votes aged 18-24 who did not vote in the last presidential election -- get out there and make a difference!

Speaking at the Democratic National Convention yesterday, Johansson said, "Young America, why are we only speaking with half our voice when so many issues at stake here directly affect us? You know who I'm voting for. I'm not going to tell you who to vote for. I'm here to ask you to commit to vote.

"Earlier this week, Chelsea Clinton reminded us that we are the generation whose voices haven't been heard. Vote so that your voice is heard. Over the last two days, we've been reminded of something that perhaps we forgot: what has been accomplished, and what is at stake.

"Whether we can get health care, afford college, be guaranteed equal pay -- all at risk. And that's why I'm here today -- to use whatever attention I'm fortunate enough to receive to shed the spotlight on what's at stake for all of us," she said.

Michelle Obama wows supporters with dynamic speech at the DNC >>

"When I was a little girl, my mother -- a registered Democrat -- would take me into the polling booth, and tell me which buttons to press and when to pull the lever. Is that even legal? I remember the excitement I felt in that secret box, and feeling like my mom's vote wasn't just about the candidate, it was about our family -- and all the families just like ours.

"This last election, I finally got to punch those buttons for me, for real. I wore my 'I voted' pin the whole day. It was my finest accessory. And this year, on November 6th, I'm filled with that same enthusiasm, that same pride, to press the button to reelect President Barack Obama! So get out there and exercise your right to vote," she finished.

When she's not stumping for Obama, you can catch Scarlett Johansson in the upcoming flick Under the Skin.

VMA 2012 recap: Hot happenings

$
0
0
The MTV Video Music Awards are one of the most eclectic of the bunch, and the artists never fail to surprise. Whether it be clothing, music or what we can't wait for them to do, tonight's show was no different.
Kevin Hart

The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards were just as random and entertaining as expected. They balanced hip-hop, R&B, pop, rock and even punk music throughout the show.

Here are some of the most eye-popping things we saw:

Kevin Hart makes flat jokes about KStew, Drake and Chris Brown

What can you say? Kevin Hart said he wouldn’t hold back on anyone, and he didn’t... except Kristen Stewart. Hart said he knew everyone wanted him to mention her, but he told them to forgive and forget. Not quite the answer everyone expected.

His jokes in the beginning of the show were the obvious news stories of the day, including a fantasy about why Drake threw the bottle at Chris Brown in a fight that happened earlier this summer . He created a persona of “I’m not going to follow your rules” but he ended up just being loud the whole show.

“You’re talking to me in my earpiece, but it's live I am going to say what I want to say,” he said in his beginning monologue. But the show would have been just fine with the individual actors and musicians introducing the acts.

One Direction

One Direction owns it

Let’s face it, it may have been their night. The band is fairly young ,0 but they made waves. The group won Best Pop Video, Best New Artist and Most Share-Worthy Video. You could tell all five of them were genuinely excited to be there and enjoying the night.

Amber Rose and Wiz Khalifa announce at the VMAs: We're havin' a baby! >>

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift and Lil' Wayne stage-dive

Kevin Hart started it after his intro monologue and it became a trend throughout the night. Lil Wayne and Taylor Swift both did it after their performances. We just hope the crowd was prepared. During Hart’s it seemed like he shocked most of the audience he was jumping on, but they seemed to get used to it after the musician “surfed” over the crowd.

The backstage cam, seeing up Ke$ha's dress

MTV was streaming live the entire ceremony on their UStream page. The camera was backstage and in the audience. Those watching the camera could see what the audience really thought of the current musician on stage: It showed many artists with blank looks on their faces during a performance or an artist dancing along. Taylor Swift was in one of the first shots dancing along in her seat to Rihanna as the latter was onstage. It also showed artists backstage before presenting or performing.

One gem that was caught on the cam was as Ke$ha was presenting an award. After the winners came on stage, Ke$ha was seen from behind pulling her dress down and looking at the audience behind her as though they’d been looking up it. Kind of ironic for someone who wanted to look naked.

30 minutes after the ceremony was over, there had been a total of 781,000 viewers on the page throughout the night.

The surprising outfits

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj

Do we even need to explain why she is on this list?

Minaj was dressed in a see-through lacey, sparkly jumpsuit, for lack of a better definition. If she was looking to accentuate her curves, she definitely did it. It was accessorized by a yellow wig that accentuated her personality. But hey, if you can get away with that outfit with praise, might as well go for it.

Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato

She is a child star no longer. Lovato stunned in a black gown and grown-up hair and makeup. She looked gorgeous and you can tell she was trying to shed her young-girl image.

Ke$ha

Ke$ha

She told Us Weekly "I wanted to look naked with some glitz on my bits." Oh Ke$ha, only you can get away with it. The look could have been pulled off though if the shoes weren’t just a little too tall for the singer to walk like she wasn’t trying on her mom’s heels and the dress actually fit her a little better.

But we wouldn’t have expected less from her. She can pull it off because she is who she is and we love her for that.

Green DayMTV mixes old-school performers with new

MTV has always done a good job of introducing new music while remembering our music past. Tonight was no different. Green Day performed at the awards show, the artists who have played the show more than anyone except Madonna.

When Pink took the stage, she began with an old recognizable tune before starting in on her newest song . While much of the night was focused on newer music, MTV never forgets where it started.

What was missing

Sometimes the things that don't show up mean as much -- if not more -- than the things that do.

Kristen Stewart -- She's promoting her new film On the Road at the Toronto Film Festival, so her not showing up may be a coincidence. But when MTV sent out a press release saying that "the cast of" Twilight would be presenting a clip from the new film, her name was surprisingly absent.

MCA's tribute -- While MTV did do a tribute for Adam Yauch, the Beastie Boy who recently passed away, it was less than a minute long and seemed like an afterthought. For a group that was there in MTV's early days, it seemed less than what he deserved.

Rashida Jones and Andy Sammberg at the VMAs

Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg presenting best hip-hop video

The two have a movie coming out, and they did not disappoint when introducing the Best Hip-Hop video. Rashida Jones, the daughter of Quincy Jones, was with Samberg, and both were somewhat dressed down. In true award-presenter fashion, they played the part and broke into a rhyme while presenting.

Drake listens to Kevin Hart's jokes at the 2012 VMAs

Chris Brown vs. Drake

The fight was over long ago, but it was still on people’s minds. Kevin Hart made a joke about it, the cameras panned to the men as well as Rihanna during the night. They were up for the same awards, and both won throughout the night.

Which leads us to…

Katy Perry and Rihanna snogged... a lot

Who knew these two even knew each other ? But all night they seemed to be BFFs. Throughout the evening, one would whisper something in the other’s ear. At first Rihanna seemed like she wasn’t that interested in the friendship, but by the end of the awards was chatting up Perry just as much as Perry was chatting up her.

Alicia Keys and Gabby Douglas

Alicia Keys and Nicki Minaj… and, Gabby Douglas?

The two performers were no surprise, but Olympian Gabby Douglas appeared onstage and began some tumbling in a cute, simple black outfit. This was after the Fierce Five all appeared onstage. The five gymnasts looked stunning in evening wear… especially since we are used to seeing them only in leotards.

What was trending on Twitter

Where do we start?

The most interesting was probably the two big events happening tonight. Normally on a night like this, the VMAs would have hijacked Twitter, but what with the Democratic National Convention, they fought for the spotlight. Twitter account @TheKing_atLyfe summed up the fight well. “Im surprised Twitter aint shut down tonight,” he tweeted. “THE #VMA's and now#DNC too much in one night but the VMAs still dnt compare to our president.”

@michaelhayes tweeted his thoughts about the night, but relating to last week’s incident. “Clint Eastwood > Awarding Chris Brown anything #VMAs.”

The two events combined took over Twitter for the night, and both topics equally prevailed on the trending lists on Twitter and elsewhere online.

Overall, it was a good night. Talented people performed and won awards, and equally talented people went home empty-handed. But the bigger story is always the personalities, and they did not disappoint tonight.

Morgan Freeman won't go down without a fight. The Oscar-winning actor is still alive and kicking, despite reports of his death. We see more TV and film documentaries in his future.

Morgan Freeman

Why would anyone want to kill Morgan Freeman? The talented actor known for his relaxing voice and acting chops is the latest in a line of celebrity victims. This week, he was at the center of Hollywood's newest death hoax.

Bill Cosby death hoax jokester has the last laugh? >>

Despite the ludicrous claims, the 75-year-old actor is still with us. According to E! Online, Freeman's rep confirmed that reports of his death are false.

"Morgan is alive and well, and joins the long list of actors who have been victimized by this hoax."

We're not sure why Freeman's always at the center of such morbid news. This isn't the first time he's "died" online. Back in 2010, he was also rumored to have passed on.

The news was generated by a false tweet sent via CNN. After hearing of the error, the network quickly apologized for any confusion.

They replied, "CNN did not report Morgan Freeman death. Rumor is false. CNN will aggressively investigate this hoax."

That was then, so what happened this time? One of the main culprits is a Facebook page, which joined the site Sept. 5. It's titled "R.I.P. Morgan Freeman" and has over 66,000 likes. But if you look at its "About" section, you'll see a strange contradiction. It says, "He's still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the internet."

Freeman may be in his 70s, but he's working harder than ever. This summer, he appeared in one of the highest-grossing movies of the year, The Dark Knight Rises. Can we please stop taking him out before his time? He has more narrating to do!

MTV's 2012 Video Music Awards: The awards you didn't see

You know those awards that MTV doesn’t bother to get presenters for because, frankly, usually the family members of the recipients are the only ones who genuinely care? Here are a few very obscure awards that you’ve likely never heard of, and the winners…

Chris HarrisBest performance by a dude in a geometric structure

This illustrious award goes to VMA DJ, Calvin Harris. Calvin cranked out Too Close and other catchy tunes that took us to commercial, making us wish we could skip the commercial and hear him finish. Which is more than we can say for some of the other live performances. If Calvin can deliver a joke, maybe next year MTV can kill two flies with one swat and hire Harris to do the live performances and the intros.

VMA award statueAwards show with no drama

This recognition goes to this year’s VMAs. Where were the chicks making out on stage? Where were the live jungle animals? Where was the washed-up rocker sucker-punching another washed-up rocker? And what’s this? No streaker? Jeeze. Just when you think you know an awards show. Considering the VMAs have become as well known for questionable antics as for the awards themselves, this year’s presentation made an episode of Dora the Explorer look shocking. Oh well, MTV always has next year to redeem itself.

Miley Cyrus VMAsMost popular hairstyle

This year’s award for this is a three-way tie between Pink, Miley Cyrus and Zane . The shaved-everywhere-except-on-top-but-not-quite-a-Mohawk look was all the rage last night. Our take-away from the evening, in light of this distinguished award, was that if you want to look edgy, you need a short, f***ed-up haircut.

One Direction VMAsGuys who look best in skinny jeans

Even though the young adults who watched the VMAs with me popped off with, “Skinny jeans are manly… said no one, ever,” One Direction single-handedly won this award. Regardless of where you stand on skinny jeans, these boys looked tight last night. Our small audience agreed that Wiz Khalifa abused this look by wearing high-water skinny dress pants. It just seemed a bit inconsistent coming from a guy who’s covered in neck tattoos and escorting his pregnant fiancé down the red carpet.

Pink VMAsWorst Mom VMA outfits

We’ve all seen the “Mom Jean” skit from SNL. After last night, we suspect SNL writers may be re-writing this using VMA wardrobe choices by the performers who are also moms. Did Britney’s VMA post-baby performance teach us nothing? Look, we love Pink and Alicia Keys but they went from "Wow!" to "Whoa!" when they rocked the red carpet in figure-flattering dresses but then took to the stage in hip-hugging disasters.

If you’ve had a baby, there are certain realities you just can’t avoid. Your hips double in size and typically don’t go back down to where they were before your pelvic region had to deliver something the size of a watermelon, and your chest sinks. Even musicians have to admit, like every other child-bearing female, that they have waved bye-bye to certain hip-hugging styles. Next year, these more experienced moms will see how unflattering some of those camera angles were, and reconcile themselves to their post-baby figures. In fact, while other celebrities are designing maternity lines, maybe these two could partner up and design a post-baby rocker clothing line. We’d buy that stuff all day long.

Taylor Swift

Ill-logical wardrobe choice

We’re not quite done with VMA fashion. This award was a tie between Taylor Swift and Nikki Minaj. Since pointing out the painfully obvious is not really our style, we’re hesitant to comment on the clown suit Ms. Minaj wore last night. We will, however, go right ahead and question the wardrobe choice for Taylor Swift in her opening and closing numbers. It’s not that there was anything wrong with it, we just don’t get it. Who puts a woman with such an enviable figure in horizontal stripes? And then pairs it with high-waisted black shorts . The red Oxfords were darling, but again: what were we supposed to take away from this super-casual, seemingly hasty outfit? Did Swift’s real costume not arrive and wardrobe personnel just had to lend her what they were wearing? In fairness, it wouldn't be the VMAs if most of the styles didn't make us say WTF.

Did Kevin Hart come up short as 2012 MTV VMA host?

Would you give Kevin Hart a callback as the MTV Video Music Awards host? It's time for the experts and viewers alike to weigh in on if the surprisingly small comedian could fill such a tall order!

Kevin Hart -- MTV Video Music Awards

Judging by most reviews of the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, Kevin Hart fell short as host. Are we harping on the comedian for his somewhat diminutive stature unfairly? We think not -- and don't forget, he's the one who started it!

As seen in the photo above, Kevin Hart kicked off Thursday night's ceremonies by entering the Staples Center in Los Angeles surrounded by an unlikely team of security guards.

Rihanna upset over Justin Beiber's VMAs shut-out? >>

"I don't know if MTV made a mistake," he told the audience, setting up what proved be a lame duck of a joke. "I told MTV that I was going to need a little security. I think they took it a little literally." Crickets. "But that's okay," he aded. "Those guys did a good job!"

Later on, Kevin Hart hoped another stab at height would equal comedic might, donning one of Dwight Howard's Los Angeles Lakers jerseys. Looking diminutive in the 6-foot-11-inch baller's shirt, Hart shot to the chuckling center, "That's funny to you? Let's see if it's funny when Kobe don't pass you the damn ball."

2012 MTV Video Music Awards: Worst-dressed >>

Panning the performance, the L.A. Times stated, "Hart played the role of back seat master of ceremonies during Thursday's densely packed show... Despite his frenetic energy, Hart's routine mostly fell flat."

The Twitter judge and jury at large, however, seems torn over Kevin Hart's hosting. "Kevin Hart is not funny, I worry about y'all sense of humor," wrote one person Thursday night. Another applauded the host, though, tweeting, "Let's pause for a moment and applaud Kevin Hart for being a damn hilarious host!"

Kris Jenner is crying boohoo over Honey Boo Boo

Kris Jenner is reportedly unsure reality television is big enough for both the Kardashians and the questionable phenomenon titled Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. It seems this momager is afraid her clan is getting pushed out of popularity by a pageant child!

Kris Jenner Honey Boo Boo

Kris Jenner fears her Kardashian family fame can't compete with Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Rumor has it the 56-year-old momager is having a fit over the popularity of 7-year-old Alana Thompson, best known as pageant regular 'Honey Boo Boo Child' to TLC fans.

A gossip source happily told RadarOnline all about Kris Jenner's Honey Boo Boo hate, adding that not only does the 56-year-old not get what the fuss is all about , but feels quite threatened the Kardashian family's time as reality television royalty may be ending.

Did TLC hit a new low with Here Comes Honey Boo Boo? >>

"To say Kris is not a fan of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo is an understatement,” the source is quoted as saying. "She thinks the Thompsons are classless, unlike her family, and can’t understand why America is so fascinated by them."

Elaborating on the feud further, they continued, "Kris especially has a strong dislike for June [Honey Boo Boo Child's mother], claiming the beauty pageant world is vile and that June is a bad mom for 'exploiting' Alana in that way.

"Kris think it’s all a ploy to make money, and says she sees through it and thinks it is absolutely disgusting."

Ring, ring -- pot calling kettle!

Kris Jenner died? "Awkward," says Kim Kardashian >>

However, Kris Jenner herself has a thing or two to say about the Honey Boo Boo hating allegations. "Sorry dolls don't believe everything you read/hear!!" she tweeted Friday. "I'm sorry to say I've never heard of 'Honey Boo Boo' and haven't seen show!"

Do you believe Kris Jenner, or do the Honey Boo Boo hating allegations ring true?

VMAs: What Taylor Swift and Lil' Wayne have in common

She's a demure country music cutie, and he's a rap star with a stint at Riker's under his belt. Obvious differences aside, however, their 2012 MTV VMA performances show that Taylor Swift and Lil' Wayne actually have more in common than you may think.

Taylor Swift at the 2012 MTV VMAsLil' Wayne at the 2012 MTV VMAsThey know how to make an entrance

2 Chainz is on stage bleeping his little heart out when the cameras pan to neon shoes atop a skateboard cutting through the raucous crowd. The feet filling those fluorescent sneaks, of course, belong to none other than hip hop's infamous tatted-up auto-tuner, Lil' Wayne. Happily, Weezy made it to the stage without being clotheslined WWE-style by the overzealous arm of a fan — although that would have been rather amusing too — and everyone went wild. Taylor may not have rolled in on any X-Games-worthy sporting goods, but her sassy, solitary "sound booth" emergence made the audience just as giddy.

They can rock some Wayfarers, y'all

Not everyone is blessed with a head which looks good wearing classic Wayfarer sunglasses. Many tempt fashion fate by donning the shades, and many end up looking like extras from The Blues Brothers. But whadya know? Both Tay-Tay and Weezy sport the signature shades during their performances for a brief moment — and they both make that brief moment look good. Granted, they only get a pass for taking part in the ever-annoying celebrity trend of wearing sunglasses inside because the sunglasses were more of a theatrical prop here. The only other acceptable excuse would be recent cataract surgery.

Friday Fashion Obsessions: Taylor Swift and Lea Michele >>

They put their ass-ets on display

Taylor's a pretty young thang, so it didn't really come as any surprise that she wore something to show off her cute little figure. More specifically, the booty-hugging short-shorts she was strutting around in onstage showed the world one potential reason so many hunky men are hot for Tay-Tay. No buts about it, though : we couldn't help but zone in on another derriere out there — Lil' Wayne's. The rapper thoughtfully paired his drooping pants with a snug pair of boxers, lest MTV producers be forced to run a censor bar over his a** all night. But, here's the thing... that a** was lookin' mighty nice. Just sayin'.

They make for some entertaining clips of famous fans feelin' it

Oh how we love those gratuitous and often awkward moments when the cameras pan in on a celebrity in the audience. The celeb, who often has some scandalous connection to the star on stage, typically smiles uncomfortably until the lingering lenses zoom out and on to someone else. Which is pretty much exactly how it went down when the cameras caught Taylor Swift's matching-monikered ex, Taylor Lautner, during her performance of "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." On the flip side, Lil' Wayne's performance brought clips of Rihanna, Katy Perry, Drake and other celebs momentarily forgetting the cameras were rolling and shakin' what their mamas gave them.

"We Are Never ..." may be about Jake Gyllenhaal >>

They go belly up... in a good way

Did crowd surfing come back in style? In the past, this sort of risky business was relegated to circa '90s rock concert mosh pits teeming with tokers and headbangers. Well, leave it to Tay-Tay and Weezy to resuscitate this rowdy crowd-pleaser for their performances — both capped off their songs floating belly-up in a sea of what we can only assume were over-eager fans' hands. The two even showed off different stage diving styles... perhaps there is an etiquette book for genre-specific stage diving techniques? Taylor's slip into the crowd was quite subtle and ladylike , whereas Lil' Wayne full out threw his shirtless body into the screaming masses. If we were in the business of handing out scores for celebrity high dives, we'd be giving these two 10s across the board for straight-up flair.

The Cold Light of Day movie review: Hunky Henry warms up

Remember hottie Henry Cavill from The Tudors? He’s back staring in this action flick set in Spain that will no doubt leave you wanting your own European holiday with Henry.

The Cold Light of Day Henry Cavill

Perfect for people looking to take a tour of Madrid, Spain

Will Shaw journeys to Spain for a sailing vacation with his family, but the reunion isn’t all hugs and kisses. There is a taut underlying tension with his emotionally distant father Martin , who Will believes works as a cultural attaché.

After a minor boating accident, Will swims to shore only to return to an empty boat. Will goes to the Spanish police for help searching for his family when the action begins.

The Cold Light of Day

Will soon discovers his father Martin is actually an operative for the CIA, and his family has been kidnapped by terrorists. If Will and his dad don’t return a ubiquitous black briefcase full of intel before Martin’s associate Jean Carrack sells it to another band of terrorists, Will’s mother, brother and his brother’s girlfriend will be killed.

Henry Cavill proves he’s in excellent cardio shape as he runs on foot through the exciting streets of Madrid. He exposes his glorious chest as he swims from the sailboat to the shore, and fortunately gets shot in the back, providing a second excuse for him to take his shirt off.

The Cold Light of Day Sigourney Weaver

Original bad-a** Sigourney Weaver struts tough as Carrack, the female double agent who can drive her Land Rover with her right hand and shoot out the window with her left. If only the filmmakers had given this amazing actress more to do than shoot bullets.

Bottom line: Henry Cavill makes an excellent action hero, so if you like your action movies with a European flavor, you’ll love The Cold Light of Day.

Paris Jackson: Ignore the haters

Paris Jackson says haters gonna hate — but that's not going to stop her from being her, and even her aunt Janet can't prevent her from reaching for the stars.

Paris Jackson

It's been quite the summer for Paris Jackson. She landed her first feature film role in the upcoming Lundon's Bridge and the Three Keys, was the center of a family firestorm over money and custody along with her two brothers Prince and Blanket, and now is opening up in a major magazine interview with Glamour. Guess what? Her life may not be perfect, but she loves it anyway.

The 14-year-old has been bitten by the acting bug, and although her mean old aunt Janet Jackson says she is much too young — probably because of her own experience as a child actress — Paris has at least one person in her corner.

"A lot of people don't want me to do it," Paris told Glamour. "Aunt La Toya believes in me. She heard me play a little guitar and sing, and she started clapping, 'Oh my God, oh my God.' She really does encourage me; it's just awesome of her."

Janet isn't Paris' only foe. The kids at her ritzy private school — the same one Kim Kardashian and Nicole Richie attended — are pretty much all haters too.

"The clique in my class, they don't like me or my friend because we're outside of the box. We're not copycats," she said. "Prince calls me goth, but I'm more rock 'n' roll. I listen to older music like AC/DC; Phil Collins is the ish."

"A ton of kids at school have made fun of me; if I had to give advice to other girls, I would say, 'Hang loose and ignore them,'" she said. "They shouldn't faze you, no matter how popular they think they are."

The teen takes her own advice to heart and plans to blaze her own path outside of her famous family.

"I love my dad, and I'm proud to be his daughter," Paris said. "I just don't think the title 'M.J.'s daughter' fits me. A lot of people think he's the only reason I'm making it, but I want to show that I do have talent and that I can make it if I try. I want to be my own person."

Read the complete interview with Paris Jackson in the October issue of Glamour.
