It's true that opposites attract, and that is especially true with Katy Perry and Rihanna. Before Thursday night's MTV Video Music Awards, very few people knew the two singers were even friends. But the affection they showed for each other in the audience during the ceremony made it obvious that they are very close.

"Whether it was Katy Perry singing in Rihanna's ear while One Direction was performing or the two of them clutching hands before it was announced that Rihanna won Video of the Year, these two were hands-down the cutest couple at the VMAs," said MTV.

The truth is, the two women have been friends for a while. According to the U.K. Sun, Rihanna was the first person Perry called when she found out her then-husband Russell Brand had filed for divorce. "Katy was embarrassed about calling her parents as they'd been so against Russell in the first place," said the paper. "But Rihanna was a great support for her and she really helped to calm her down."

While it seems like the two couldn't be more different, they actually have a lot in common. Rihanna went through a very public breakup from boyfriend Chris Brown, a relationship it looks like she is still dealing with. Perry's fast-moving relationship, and eventual breakup, with Brand was also done in front of the world. They both came from humble backgrounds and built themselves into their one-woman music empires, and it could be argued that they are two of the most important women in pop music today.

Perry is almost four years older than Rihanna, but that doesn't seem to make a difference. Rihanna and Perry were absolutely adorable Thursday night, and we look forward to seeing much more of this blooming relationship.

Rebel Wilson may be the ultimate comedic actress. She's willing to go out on a limb for her comedy. And Thursday night was no different. Wilson presented the award for Best Female Video at the MTV Video Music Awards with The Wanted and may have made each one of them blush.

"The actress sent jaws dropping at the Staples Center in Los Angeles when she stepped out in an airbrushed T-shirt with a silhouette of a shapely bikini girl," said the U.K. Daily Mail. "But perhaps most red-faced were British-Irish boy band The Wanted, after she propositioned the singers to let her take them home."

Wilson came out on stage holding a strategically placed bag of chips. Then she lifted that bag to reveal that her painted-on bikini was covering up a body that, well, desperately needed a shave. She told the band she wouldn't need to choose which one she would take home because she could choose them all. And then, "everybody wins."

The Bridesmaids actress signed on as the Australian face of Jenny Craig last year and has been losing weight ever since.

"She tipped the scales at 234 lbs but has now dropped 33 lbs. Showing off her slimmer figure on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last month, she said she wants to lose another 22 lbs to reach her target," said the Daily Mail.

She also has a new movie coming out soon. Bachelorette is the story of women growing up and seeing their friends get married.

"Writer-director Leslye Headland cast the comedienne as the straight woman in the dark comedy," said the Daily Mail. "Wilson plays Becky, a sweet, beaming bride — the first of her friends to marry. Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher and Lizzy Caplan are her troubled clique of friends whose hard-partying antics threaten to ruin Becky's big day."

She is also working on a TV pilot with Conan O'Brien, which she will star in. Bachelorette is in theaters now.

Kristen Stewart's noticeable absence from Thursday's MTV Video Music Awards was due to her appearance at the Toronto Film Festival to promote her new film On The Road. Her presence was much anticipated because she has not made any public appearances since she and boyfriend Robert Pattinson broke up.

She was asked the question she probably most dreaded — about the appearances she'll have to make with Pattinson to promote the new Twilight film and the awkwardness that will probably be involved.

"We're going to be fine," she said and then, in what appeared to be an afterthought, followed with, "We're totally fine," according to the U.K. Daily Mail.

The comment was directed more at promoting the film than the status of their relationship, which is still in question. Pattinson is selling the home they shared together, and he isn't talking either.

"Robert, 26, appeared at last night's Stand Up to Cancer fundraiser in Los Angeles, and has squirmed his way through various appearances to promote new film Cosmopolis, while avoiding questions on Kristen at all costs," said the Daily Mail.

The paper also said Stewart looked like she did not want to be at a photo shoot with her On The Road co-stars and appeared "tired and weary." But at the premiere for the movie, she was surrounded by supportive fans and reportedly stayed on the red carpet much longer than she had planned to take pictures and sign autographs.

Many thought she might skip the festival, since she hasn't been in public in so long, but the actress said it wasn't even a question.

"We have been waiting for this thing to be unleashed for so long," she said, according to the Daily Mail. "It was sort of one of those situations where you just have to put yourself in your body and go appreciate the moment."

On The Road is expected to hit theaters Dec. 21, just about a month after The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 is released.

Larry Flynt has never been shy about sharing his opinions, and tomorrow, millions of Americans will learn exactly how he feels about presidential candidate Mitt Romney. The Hustler entrepreneur has taken out full-page ads in the Sunday edition of the Washington Post and the Sept. 11 edition of USA Today offering a bounty for Romney's tax returns.

"What is he hiding?" the ad reads, said Yahoo!. "Maybe, now, we'll find out." Flynt includes his phone number and email address for anyone willing to provide those returns. A press release released by Hustler magazine said Flynt is "offering up to a million dollars in cash for documented evidence concerning Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney's unreleased tax returns and/or details of his offshore assets, bank accounts and business partnerships," according to CNN.

CNN also said the issue could be more an attempt by Flynt to promote his magazine than to actually keep Romney's finances in the headlines. Romney has released his 2010 returns and an "estimate" of his 2011 taxes but has said he won't release more years. His reason — it would only increase criticism.

Romney's tax returns were also in the news earlier this week after an online hacker claimed to have the tax documents and would offer them up for a $1 million ransom.

"Should the sum not be paid by later this month, the posting said a key to unlock the documents would be released publicly, while the financial firm from which the documents were allegedly stolen said there is 'no evidence of unauthorized access to our data,'" according to CNN.

Flynt is a registered Democrat but ran for president in 1984 as a Republican, said Yahoo!. In the past, he has offered similar rewards for different causes he cares about, including debunking the Warren Commission's investigation into the death of John F. Kennedy, finding evidence of infidelity on the part of Texas governor Rick Perry, and finding evidence of marital infidelity on the part of any Republican attempting to impeach President Clinton.

The stars have all come out at the Toronto Film Festival, and as usual we're learning so much about them. Bradley Cooper admitted this week that he is a fan of a series you may not have guessed. Cooper is at TIFF promoting his new film, The Silver Linings Playbook, which co-stars Jennifer Lawrence of The Hunger Games.

Cooper and Lawrence were being interviewed by MTV News when he shared a secret with Lawrence.

"I just saw it," Cooper told Lawrence in the interview, speaking about her other movie. "I didn't even tell you? I didn't text you?"

According to MTV, the actress looked surprised. Cooper continued by saying how excited he is about the new casting choices for the next film in the series.

"Philip Seymour Hoffman is in this," he said. "He's unbelievable."

Besides Hoffman's addition to the series, Sam Claflin was announced as playing Finnick in the story. Lawrence seemed very excited over the choice.

"He's wonderful," she told MTV. "He's really sweet, a great, wonderful actor. He's got a great American accent."

Cooper shared that he was upset about one event in the first film: "I'm bummed out that Wes Bentley got killed. He was awesome."

But he was corrected by MTV's Josh Horowitz, who said it’s possible he's still alive. And Lawrence explained, "It's kind of like a Tupac situation."

While there are still parts to cast, Cooper made no mention of wanting to actually be in the movies. But since he is such a big fan, it's always a possibility. Fans will have to wait a little longer for the next film. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is not set to be released until Nov. 22, 2013, followed by the next two films on Nov. 21, 2014, and Nov. 20, 2015.

The Silver Linings Playbook will hit theaters Nov. 21 of this year.

The list of musicians unhappy with politicians using their music is growing, and R.E.M. is the newest addition to that list. Only they are not complaining to a politician but to a whole network. Fox News has reportedly been using the band's song "Losing My Religion" on the show Fox & Friends.

"We have little or no respect for their puff adder brand of reportage," lead singer Michael Stipe said in a statement on R.E.M.'s website. "Our music does not belong there."

The band and Warner-Tamerlane Music, their music publisher, sent a cease and desist letter to the network, telling it to stop "its unlicensed and unauthorized use of the song."

However, Fox said it has a license to use the song. The network spoke with the New York Daily News about the issue.

"Fox News Channel's use of an R.E.M. song during Thursday's edition of 'Fox & Friends' was in full accordance with its license agreements with all appropriate parties," a spokesperson told the Daily News, according to Brent Johnson with the New Jersey Star-Ledger. "Nevertheless, we're always flattered to have this much attention for a song selection and we hope R.E.M. was able to satisfy their publicity fix."

The network reportedly used the song during the Democratic National Convention as a commentary on the party's religious views. Dee Snyder of Twisted Sister earlier told Paul Ryan to stop using that band's song "We Aren't Going to Take It" at his rallies, and the Silversun Pickups had to ask Mitt Romney to stop using their song “Panic Switch” during his rallies. "We don't like the Romney campaign," said Brian Aubert with the band.

R.E.M. has not responded to Fox's statement about their need for publicity, but Stipe posted this on the band's website today: "Fox News ha ha HAHAHA." There has been no mention of the song being used since the network was sent the cease and desist letter.

"The biggest news of yesterday was I was made aware that Sean was at his parents[sic] house filming his intro videos, so safe to say he’s going to be the next Bachelor," RS wrote on Thursday. "I have no idea when the network is going to announce it officially."

Amada Bynes isn't the only person in Hollywood who's apparently having trouble staying sober behind the wheel. Former All in the Family star Sally Struthers and actor Michael Madsen were both busted for driving under the influence in separate incidents this week.

Madsen, 54, was arrested on Thursday after he was spotted driving his red Pontiac GTO erratically on the Pacific Coast Highway, according to the LAPD. A spokesman for the department said a preliminary blood test put his blood alcohol level at .21 — the legal limit in California is .08.

The DUI wasn't his only interaction with the cops this year: He was arrested in March for a fistfight with his teenage son and charged with child cruelty.

His attorney told TMZ that Madsen "found his son smoking pot and they got in an argument when he tried to take it away. It's a family matter and Michael asks that his families[sic] privacy be respected."

Struthers' bust was quite a distance from Madsen's — she was arrested for OUI — operating under the influence — by Maine police on Sept. 12 in Ogunquit, a town about 40 miles south of Portland. She's in the city performing in a production of 9 to 5.

The blonde actress paid the $160 to get out of jail, but she's denying that she did anything wrong.

"Sally is working and she is fine and she loves The Ogunquit Playhouse and her yearly time in Ogunquit. We deny these charges," her rep said in a statement.

The website reported that a car registered to Zuluaga's mother was spotted outside Johnson's Miami mansion.

Martha Stewart and Emeril Lagasse are wrapped up in an international knife fight going down in the courts. Have the two celebrities been ripping off culinary arts consumers for years?

Cutting to the heart of the matter, the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce Wuppertal-Solingen-Remscheid believes the pair are guilty of trademark infringement.

The group has sued Martha Stewart, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Emeril Lagasse and Home Shopping Network for "up to $2,000,000 for each time the knives were mentioned" on HSN, reports Forbes.

The lawsuit alleges that Martha and Emeril tricked their television viewers into believing the knives had been made in Solingen, Germany, as was inscribed on the blade. The region in northern Germany is called the "City of Blades" and is known for its world-class cutlery — a far cry from China, where the suit claims the knockoff knives were actually manufactured.

A customer complaint included in the lawsuit reads:

"I'm disappointed in the video when Emeril stated that the Santoku knife was made in Germany. This is the main reason I made the purchase. Come to find out it is made in China. That is terrible when a top chef lies to you on TV. Wish I would have known. Emeril cannot be trusted with what he advertises."

Predicting the possibility of a massive payout if the customers win the suit, Forbes reports, "That figure will certainly skyrocket, seeing that HSN runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 364 days a year, and reaches approximately 96,000,000 homes."

"Things are going great with Jacques," LuAnn told SheKnows when we visited her at her penthouse apartment in NYC during Fashion Week.

On the last episode of RHONY, LuAnn's co-stars accused her of bringing home a man during their St. Bart's vacation. But LuAnn told us it was a misunderstanding and that the women had blown it out of proportion.

"It was a ride home with a friend, and I didn't even think twice," said LuAnn. "It was just easier [to lie to the ladies], because I knew they would have made it into something one way or the other. I made up this white lie, never thinking it would snowball into what it did, and for that, I’m sorry I ever did."

But like she said, things are "great" with Jacques. So great that the two are still even considering having a child together.

"It is on the table, and we of course would love it if it did happen," said LuAnn. "Obviously, I know my chances are very slim, but I'm doing acupuncture. But I'm not being aggressive about it."

LuAnn tells us, though, that she and Jacques will be fine with the outcome if pregnancy doesn't happen.

"The great news is that Jacques is OK with that," she told us. "It's not a deal breaker. He loves me, so if we do, it would be great. If we don't, that's fine too."

Marriage is also a definite possibility for the couple, but LuAnn is certainly not angling for it, unlike her co-star Sonja Morgan, who grilled Jacques on the subject in a recent episode.

"I wouldn't say that [marriage] isn't in the deck," said LuAnn. "I'm just going to let Jacques be the man and ask me when he wants."

In the meantime the two are just enjoying their time together. LuAnn tells us Jacques has gotten her into running, playing chess, and even boxing.

"Jacques loves to run, so I've started running with him," she told us. "He's also into boxing, so he's actually become my trainer."

As for chess, LuAnn says he's got her beat.

"You have to have a lot of patience," said LuAnn. "I'm still learning."

Closer magazine is really getting close to the edge now. First, the mag published photos of Kate Middleton sans top — and now magazine editor Laurence Pieau claims to have more revealing photos.

"I won't hide the fact that there are more intimate pictures that exist that we haven't published and will not publish," Pieau said in a video interview. "These images are full of joy, not degrading."

Basically, he's saying Wills & Kate were getting it on outside. It's not salacious at all — if anything, the photographer is the creep for using his megatelephoto lens to capture the royal couple on holiday.

Buckingham Palace has already filed a lawsuit against the French magazine for the photos taken last week in Provence, France.

"Their Royal Highnesses had every expectation of privacy in the remote house. It is unthinkable that anyone should take such photographs, let alone publish them. Officials acting on behalf of Their Royal Highnesses are consulting with lawyers to consider what options may be available to The Duke and Duchess," St. James' Palace said in a statement. The royals aren't going to let it get them down, though.

"The Duke and Duchess remain focused currently on their Tour of Singapore, Malaysia, [the] Solomon Islands and Tuvalu on behalf of HM The Queen."

"Things like this, people do look at them and wonder if they are signs," The Mirror's royal correspondent Victoria Murphy told ABC News. "People are whispering and going on, 'Is she pregnant? Is she pregnant?'"

It sounds like they're more than ready — William even knows how many kids he wants.

"Two!" he told a schoolboy in Singapore on Tuesday.

CariDee English is one of the few who know what it's like to win America's Next Top Model. While amazing in the moment, the reality of landing a contract as fresh meat for the fashion world to chew up isn't all it's cracked up to be, she says. And Tyra Banks is often no help at all!

In light of the news that former contestant Jael Strauss has become a meth addict and is turning to Dr. Phil for help, CariDee English has decided to speak out about the downside of Top Model.

"Tyra won't do anything [for Jael]," the 27-year-old ANTM winner bluntly commented to Gawker. "She provided a wonderful platform for girls to have a chance at their dream, but after[ward], there is no 'Tyra Mail.'"

Sharing her experience after winning in 2006, CariDee English continued, "I had to guide myself, and even though I won a model competition, I still had no idea what the modeling BUSINESS was like. I had no idea what the industry was really like. I was famous, but no one wanted to take my picture. And critics and industry love to give us all s**t for not being the next big supermodel."

"The fashion industry had NO idea how to market us," the America's Next Top Model vet continued. "We became instant celebs but had the portfolio of a rookie model. Even though we just were named 'TOP,' our place in line at Fashion World was at the bottom."

"Tyra wasn't there when the cameras stopped rolling, nor did she reach out ... The only person that has reached out to me directly is Nigel Barker," she added.

In regard to "poor girl" Jael Strauss, CariDee English wrote, "Having problems and then getting a hint of fame only make an addiction rise. They should have evaluated her a lot more before letting her on the show. All they saw was a personality good for television. Well, this hopefully will save at least her life and someone watching. Everything happens for a reason. Not to worry, none of us make it out alive."

Brandi Carlile and her blushing bride are set to marry Saturday in a ceremony that will be legally recognized. In awe that her dream of a legitimate wedding is actually happening, the singer hopes to set an example for other gay girls.

"It was a crazy feeling while I was filling out the paperwork because I felt like I was breaking a law, like somebody was going to come in and say, 'You know you can't have this!' It was so exciting... we have a marriage license in Massachusetts," Brandi Carlile shared with the Associated Press.

The Story singer and Catherine Shepherd plan to marry first in Boston, later throw a party in Seattle, and also celebrate in London next year!

Giving thanks for those who have worked so hard to make gay marriage a reality, at least in some states, Brandi Carlile said, "It's so surprising, and so hard fought... I wouldn't have been able to picture myself married or successful or pursuing my dreams if there hadn't been other people that had done it before me, like role models, and that's why talking about it is so important."

Speaking of setting an example, she continued, "If a 14- or 15-year-old girl reads this in a small town, who's gay, then she knows that someday she might get to go get a marriage license and get married, and there's no reason she should stop dreaming about a white wedding because I didn't."

"There's a political undercurrent around equality right now that just demands a voice, voices to rise up and say, 'Yeah, I'm one of these people too and I believe this thing as well,'" added the 31-year-old. "So that's what we're doing right now. We're on the cusp of a civil rights movement and so I have to be a part of it and I want to be."
